Acadia Beach
Sand Beach is the only sandy beach in Acadia National Park. Surrounded by cliffs, this small stretch of beach is stunning. The water is shockingly cold, even in the summer. Tides and rogue waves can be very strong, so you need to be careful, even if you’re a strong swimmer.
I’ve been working on painting ocean waves this summer, and I’m finally getting where I want to be. I’m glad I painted a value/monochromatic sketch and a watercolor sketch before starting the final painting. With my third wash/shadow over the cliffs, I lost a lot of the details... Looking at my value sketch I decided to go back in, which can sometimes be tricky when working with watercolor.
